One of the enduring legacies of apartheid seperate development is the shanty towns on our urban periferies constructed ramshackle out of corrugated iron and steel. Shelter is a huge problem even 15 years after democracy and so when a great shelter idea comes around, I invariably get excited. The Hexayurt is really an example of intermediate technology. It is not the end soluton to housing, but rather a more efficient way of providing a shelter.
